Provisional credit
A temporary credit a bank may post to your account while it investigates a disputed electronic transaction under Regulation E. If a bank cannot resolve an alleged error within 10 business days, it generally must give provisional credit for the disputed amount so you have use of the funds during the investigation, which can run up to 45 days (longer for some new accounts or foreign or point-of-sale transactions). If the investigation confirms the error, the credit becomes permanent; if it finds no error, the bank may reverse the provisional credit after notifying you.
